Red fleshed apples at Jones Creek Farms     3/15/2024

Red fleshed apples can be a real pleasure to eat! Sometimes shockingly tart at first
bite, but with some, followed by a swell of sugar that blends in your mouth like a Sour Patch candy. The red flesh, of course, is a great surprise to the uninitiated. The apples can be used to color sauce, juice and add a wonderful display of color to favorite dishes. When drying apples, the color remains!

Here at Jones Creek Farms we are always searching for more varieties of Red fleshed apples to compliment our U Pick experience. We have been growing our firsst variety, Pink Pearl, for over 30 years. One problem with most red fleshed varieties, however is they are mostly all ripe at aprox the same time. This is mostly due to the breeding, having been crossed with the same Russian red fleshed crabapple.
At Jones Creek Farms we have rejected dozens of red varieties that ripen within the same time frame as ones we already have established. This trial and error approach has taken many, many years but we have come up with a few new ones to add to our collection…..
